Bushman

Of all the Zoo's animals, Bushman was by far the most famous. Bushman was captured in Equitorial West Africa in 1929, when he was 1 year old. He was sold to the zoo for $3500 and arrived in Chicago on August 15, 1930, weighing 30 pounds. At his peak, he stood 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed in at 550 pounds. Above, he is pictured with a favorite toy, a tire from Adolf Hitler's car.
